Trainer & Consultant

Brian is an independent trainer & consultant specialising in providing support for vulnerable individuals and those that care for and work with them.


Brian was a Local Authority foster carer for over 30 years. Along with his wife they have provided long term foster care for large sibling groups. They have been the Special Guardians of children that they previously looked after and currently provide a home for three young people with FASD. He was Chair of his local the Foster Carer Association for over 20 years and represented foster carers locally, regionally and internationally.

Until recently Brian was Director of Education & Wellbeing at the National Organisation for FASD and has been the lead author and co-ordinator for the Me & My FASD project & Living FASD Magazine.

Brian has been Virtual School Head for Children in Care in Dudley & Peterborough and was one of the 11 Virtual Heads who was on the Department for Children, Schools and Families national pilot. He was also closely involved in national pilots on One-to-One Tuition, Multi-Therapeutic Treatment Foster Care and the Assisted Boarding School Pathfinder.

He was a teacher for over 25 years His experience covers Humanities Education, Careers Education and Guidance, Young People’s Voice and Leadership and he was also England’s only Advanced Skills Teacher for Enterprise Education. Brian has also been a school governor in Primary, secondary and Special Education.

As a trainer & Consultant he provides individual commissioned work focusing on the Vulnerabilities that impact children and young people in our communities including – FASD & other hidden disabilities, Trauma, Un-met Attachment, Neglect, Abuse, Care experience, Promoting the Voice of children & young people.

He is an expert advisor on the education achievement of children in care for an independent fostering agency.

Brian has given evidence to many government investigations including the All-Party Parliamentary Working Group on Adoption and Fostering on Looked After Children’s Achievement (2007 & 2010), the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders on the impact that FASD has on family life and education (2016 & 2018). the Education Select Committee inquiry on the future of fostering (2017) the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Kinship Care’s investigation into SEND’s (2025) and The Department for Education SEND & AP Learning & Development Group on FASD (2025).           

November 2025
